SUMMER MATH · ADVANCED

A summer
of real
acceleration.

Advanced kids stall in the summer for the opposite reason most kids stall - nothing is challenging enough. We design the season around the math your kid is actually ready for next, taught at full pace by a tutor who isn't holding the group back.

Twelve focused weeks. From pre-algebra acceleration through pre-calc and beyond. Built for kids working ahead of their grade - and kids who could be, if anyone bothered to ask.

Just 30 minutes a day.

A weekly session with your tutor. Cancel any week, no annual commitment.

01

The problem with advanced kids in summer.

Most summer programs are designed to keep kids treading water. For a kid who already finished the year ahead, that's not maintenance - it's regression.

01 CEILING
Most summer programs are review.

Tutoring centers and summer worksheets default to grade-level material. If your kid finished the year ahead, three months of 'maintaining' is three months of frustration - and a fast way to teach a kid that math is something they wait through.

02 ACCESS
Elite camps are great. They're also selective and intense.

Acceleration shouldn't depend on getting into SUMaC or AwesomeMath. A weekly hour at the right edge moves a kid forward all summer - no application essay, no three-week residential, no all-or-nothing.

03 INTEREST
Advanced math fades when it stops being fun.

The kids most at risk over summer aren't the ones falling behind - they're the ones being asked to do thirty problems they already know how to do. The fastest way to lose an advanced kid is to bore them.

02

What advanced kids look like, growing.

Four students from this past spring - including two already at or near the percentile ceiling. School percentile charts flatten at the top. The work doesn't.

GRADE 6 ~2.75× growth
Already at the ceiling. Still climbing.

Entered the spring at the 99th percentile and stayed there - a flat line at the top of the parent-portal chart all season. Underneath, growth ran nearly three times the typical pace. The ceiling hides it; the work doesn't.

GRADE 4 ~2.67× growth
Already ahead. Pulled further away.

Started at the 90th percentile, finished at the 96th - more than two-and-a-half times faster than the typical Grade 4 student. The kind of acceleration advanced kids almost never get in a group setting.

GRADE 5 ~5.25× growth
Walked in behind. Walked out ahead.

For range: a student who started below grade level finished above it in the same season. The same one-on-one, mastery-paced approach - just pointed at a different starting line.

GRADE 9 ~2.5× growth
Real growth where the curve goes flat.

By Grade 9, typical seasonal growth slows to a crawl. This student moved from the 70th to the 73rd percentile in a single spring - two-and-a-half times the typical pace, in the window where most students barely budge.

03

Four things every summer student gets.

The Recess Academy approach to math, run as a focused summer program - mastery-based, paced to the kid, taught by a tutor who stays with them all summer.

FOCUS
One student at a time.

Your child has the tutor's full attention for the whole session - the work paced to the depth and speed they're actually ready for, not a grade-level default.

DEPTH
No ceiling. No waiting.

When your kid is ready for the next thing, they get the next thing - not the next worksheet at the same level. We accelerate when accelerating is the right call, and go deeper when that is.

MENTOR
A tutor who can challenge your kid.

One adult who gets to know how your kid actually thinks - the leaps they make, the proofs they want to chase, the corners they get bored in. A tutor who can challenge a kid is the whole game.

PARENTS
You hear what's happening.

A regular update on what your child worked on, where they've grown, and what comes next - so you can see the trajectory and the rest of the summer at home can build on it.

60-minute session with your tutor, once a week

Live with a Recess tutor on Open School. We work at the edge of what your kid can actually do - not the edge of the standard curriculum - and assign focused problems for the week between sessions.

02
Pre-algebra through calculus, and beyond

Working ahead of grade level by a year or three. Working through competition-style problem sets. Building toward AMC, AIME, or just the next real challenge. We meet your kid where they are - which, for advanced kids, is often not where school has them.

03
Weekly recap to the parent

What we worked on, where they've grown, and what comes next. So the trajectory is visible - and you can see acceleration happening, not just hope for it.

05

Twelve weeks. Real challenge.

Most summers, advanced kids tread water. Twelve focused weeks with a tutor chosen to match where your kid is actually working - that's how forward stops feeling like an accident.
