What You’ll Do
- Join a small group of 4-8 students and meet once a week in an ongoing class
- Complete weekly challenges that stretch your imagination and build creative writing skills
- Write scripts, short stories, plays, poems, etc. through guided activities
- Some challenges will be individual and others will be collaborating with your peers to create characters, worlds, conflicts, and surprising plot twists
- At the end of each session, share your work and see how everyone’s different imaginations take the same beginning prompt to different places
What You’ll Learn
Story Fundamentals: Characters, setting, conflict, plot, storytelling structure for different mediums, etc.
Writing Skills: Dialogue, scene writing, script formatting, descriptive detail, and voice
Creative Thinking: World building, brainstorming, collaborative ideation, problem solving through storytelling, and outside the box thinking
Expression & Confidence: Sharing work aloud, giving and receiving feedback, and walking away with pieces of writing material you can be proud of
What You’ll Need
- A laptop or desktop computer with a working microphone and camera
- A space where you can write comfortably without distraction
- Google Docs, Word, a pencil and paper, or whatever writing tool works best for you (templates will be provided when needed)
Meet Lanie
Lanie Siegel is a professional television writer. She’s written on shows including The Neighborhood (CBS) and Act Your Age (Netflix), and has a few features and a novel in development. She knows the ins and outs of writing for all mediums and is excited to share her knowledge with you!
