Board Games Squad is a space where kids explore a wide variety of modern and classic board games while learning how different games work, what makes them fun, and how to think strategically. This is not just about playing. It’s about discovering your preferences, developing skills, and finding games you can bring home to share with family and friends.

Whether you love strategy, teamwork, creativity, or competition, this squad helps you explore new experiences and grow your confidence as a player and thinker.

What You'll Do:

• Explore different types of games such as strategy, cooperative, creative, and social games
• Discover what kinds of games you enjoy most
• Reflect on what worked, what didn’t, and how different games feel to play
• Practice explaining rules, sharing ideas, and helping others learn
• Build friendships while playing and learning together
• Find games you can bring home and play with your family and friends

What you'll learn:

Strategic Thinking: Learn to plan ahead, evaluate choices, and adapt your approach Game Literacy: Understand different game mechanics and what makes games engaging Communication Skills: Practice expressing ideas, asking questions, and collaborating Self-Reflection: Learn to identify your preferences, improve your strategy, and articulate what you enjoy Confidence and Leadership: Gain experience learning new systems and supporting others Real-World Connection: Discover games you can continue playing outside of Recess with friends and family

What you'll need:

• A working camera and microphone
• A free Board Game Arena account (required)

Some more advanced squads may also use Tabletop Simulator on Steam, which allows for deeper and more flexible board game experiences. Tabletop Simulator is also compatible with VR for players who have access to VR hardware, but VR is not required.

No prior board game experience is required. Choose the squad that fits your ability/experience.

Each Board Games Squad explores different games based on group interest and experience level. Some squads focus on learning foundational games, while others may move toward more advanced experiences using Tabletop Simulator.
