Intro to Web Design
Learn design fundamentals and create your very own website in Figma
Note: The Figma Crash Course or Figma Copycat is prerequisite for this class!
Want to make a website? Maybe a space travel agency website, or a wiki documenting the morphology of dragons? Whatever your idea, I’ll help you bring it to life. Let’s use Figma to create your very own website.
What we’ll do:
Over six classes, we’ll take your project from idea to reality.
- Brainstorming – what’s your website idea?
- Wireframing – creating a basic outline of your site
- Content – adding text and images
- Design Principles – Applying gestalt principles and visual design techniques
- Polish – choosing colors, fonts & style
- Finishing touches At the end of the course, you will have a prototype of your website. Our group will be small, so you’ll get lots of individually tailored feedback.
What You'll Need
You should be comfortable using Figma. I would suggest taking the Figma Crash Course before you join this class. If you aren't sure, reach out to me and I'll advise you.
You may want a way to find/generate images and graphics. Midjourney is my favorite tool for this, but you might also use Unsplash, Canva, or Lexica. Of course, you can also find images directly on Google, or use your own photos.
If you know HTML and CSS, you can put those skills to use prototyping your designs on the web. But this is by no means required.
Concepts Encountered:
Iterative design, ideation, planning, wireframing, user experience, whitespace, hierarchy, consistency, gestalt principles, fonts and colors, the Figma Design Editor
