Homerooms

Play games, make new friends, and take on challenges together.

Social Play
Organized by Recess

Hosted by 10 expert guides

A weekly meetup with the same small group of kids, led by a guide who gets to know each one. It's the best place to start if you're new to Recess: you'll make friends, learn your way around, and play co-op games together that get harder as your group gets better at working as a team.

Every homeroom runs a little differently. Some have a favorite game they return to every week. Others rotate every few weeks. Some play Steam games, others stick to web and board games.

We cover the games! If your homeroom plays something on Steam, we'll gift it to your account before your first session.

Check the homeroom name before you register

Every homeroom lists its game in the name. This matters because some games only run on certain computers.

  • Steam homerooms need a free Steam account (make one here). Some games, like PEAK, don't run on Mac at all. If you're on a Mac, pick a homeroom with MAC in the title. Windows works with everything.
  • Web and board game homerooms run entirely in your browser. No account, no downloads, works on Mac and Windows.

Not sure which fits your setup? Register for any homeroom and we'll reach out to confirm before your first session.

What You'll Do

  • Meet with the same group and guide every week
  • Play co-op games that get harder as your team gets better
  • Vote on what your group plays next
  • Take on challenges too big to solve alone
  • Debrief after each session on what worked and what didn't
  • Welcome new kids into the group and help them get up to speed

What You'll Learn

  • Team Coordination: Make a plan and adjust as you go
  • Clear Communication: Call out what matters for your team
  • Resilience: Make mistakes, reflect, and try again
  • Reading the Room: Notice when a teammate is frustrated or left out, and do something about it
  • Group Decision-Making: Disagree, find middle ground, and commit together

What You'll Need

  • A working camera and microphone
  • A Windows or Mac computer

New to Using a Computer?

You're in the right place. Homerooms are designed to help kids get comfortable on a computer, have fun, and make friends. We start simple and move to more complex games over time so you keep leveling up.
