The Why & How to Getting Started with Amateur Radio!
Welcome to Ham Radio 101 where you will learn the why's and how's of Amateur Radio!
During our time together we will focus on the following topics:
- What is ham radio and how does it work?
- Why would someone want to become a ham radio operator?
- What are some emergency situations where ham radio operators have benefitted their community?
- How does someone become a licensed ham radio operator?
- What are the benefits of belonging to your local amateur radio club?
This class will introduce students to a unique hobby that will improve their communication, technical, and emergency response skills. It will also grow their circle of friends, and help them to become more self-reliant and of great value to their family and community in emergency situations.
Tom is carrying on the legacy of his brilliant grandfather who trained servicemen to use radio and radar at various Navy training facilities at home and overseas during WW2, as well as being a chief engineer for commercial radio stations, & having a 108 ft Ham Radio tower in his back yard.
A bit about Tom:
Tom has been a licensed Ham Radio operator for over a decade and is licensed in both the USA and Canada. He is an electronics whiz who has built his own functioning Ham Radio equipment and towers. Tom is excited to share his passion for Ham Radio with you through his experience, knowledge, and skills.
