How do movies go from idea to screen? We'll explore filmmaking together from every angle! Let's investigate together by watching behind-the-scenes footage, examining real storyboards and scripts, looking at editing timelines, casting tapes, budgets, etc etc etc. β¨ π¬ We'll analyze scenes together to understand cinematography, editing, sound design, special effects, and more, and even looking into the tech of filmmaking (past, present and future). It's like having an all-access pass to the hidden secrets of the movie-making world!
Our weekly adventures include:
- Watching: short movie clips, behind-the-scenes, whole scenes, film critique, kit reviews, short films, classic movies, modern movies, TV series πΊ
- Writing and Storyboarding: compare original screenplays and storyboards to what made it to the screen
- Directing: Learn the art of visual storytelling, directing actors and bringing your vision to life π
- Capturing: Master the secrets of beautiful cinematography, lighting, camera operating, motion capture and state of the art 3D capture tech πΈ
- Editing: Discover how editing transforms raw footage into finished films βοΈ
- Sound: Explore the power of music and sound design in storytelling π΅
- Producing: the business side of leading, organising, budgeting and holding together a whole project before, during and after the film is made
- Sets & Special Effects: set design, set construction, traditional practical effects, green screen, puppets, miniatures, explosions etc
- R&D: wondering together, researching, experimenting and sharing what we find in a good vibes group of like-minded curious folks

When we work on group projects, you'll get the chance to take on roles that interest you, whether it's writing, acting, directing, editing, special effects, foley, music composing, producing, storyboarding or anything else.
