Executive Functioning Workshop

Learn practical skills to help your brain succeed in any environment

Art, Writing & Discussions
Organized by Recess

Hosted by 1 expert guide

School asks students to juggle a lot: keeping track of assignments, managing time, staying organized, starting tasks they don't want to do, and bouncing back when things don't go as planned. These aren't just "study skills"; they're executive functioning skills, which are still developing throughout adolescence. Many students struggle not because they aren't capable, but because they haven't yet learned how to work with their brains instead of against them.

How this works

Over the course of 8 weeks, students will learn how their brains work while building practical strategies they can use immediately at school and at home. Through interactive challenges, games, real-life problem solving, and collaborative activities, they'll develop the skills to plan, prioritize, stay organized, manage distractions, and follow through with greater confidence and independence.

Class meets twice a week for 30 minutes at a time.

Students will practice skills including:

  • Organization and planning
  • Goal setting and follow-through
  • Prioritizing tasks
  • Time management
  • Managing distractions
  • Flexible thinking and problem solving
  • Emotional regulation during schoolwork
  • Building confidence and independence

Our goal is for every student to leave knowing that executive functioning isn't about having a "better brain". It's about understanding the brain they already have and building systems that help them thrive.

The skills learned in this workshop are reinforced in all Recess classes.
