Debate Club
Debate real-world topics each week in this club led by a champion debater
Hosted by 2 expert guides
This weekly beginner debate class is designed to help participants find their voice, think critically, and practice disagreeing respectfully and confidently.
Each 55-minute class is led by a champion debater who creates a supportive, encouraging environment that challenges students without overwhelming them. The focus is not on “winning,” but on learning how to organize ideas, speak clearly, and respond thoughtfully to different points of view.
How the class works:
Each session begins with a short impromptu speaking activity to warm up. This helps participants think on their feet, practice speaking out loud, and build confidence in a low-pressure setting.
Next, the group explores a real-world debate topic. Before class, families receive a simple debate guide that includes the topic, a brief description, and sample pro and con ideas.
A clear case outline is provided for those who prefer to prepare in advance. For others, dedicated class time is built in to organize thoughts and develop a case during the session.
During class, participants share arguments, listen to opposing viewpoints, and practice crafting thoughtful rebuttals. The instructor models and reinforces respectful disagreement, active listening, and clear communication throughout the discussion.
What you will gain:
Greater confidence speaking in front of others
Stronger critical thinking and reasoning skills
Experience organizing and expressing ideas clearly
Practice responding to opposing viewpoints with respect
A supportive space to build communication skills week by week
This class is ideal for those who are new to debate or want structured, ongoing practice in public speaking and discussion. Whether someone is naturally talkative or more reserved, the class supports steady confidence-building at an individual pace, with skills that carry into academics and everyday conversations.
