Addison Academy
Rigorous - Fun - Collaborative | MATH
Hosted by 2 expert guides
Most math classes start with formulas and rules. This class flips that approach on its head. Using renowned Phillips Exeter Academy’s 9th-grade Algebra curriculum, students begin by diving straight into carefully crafted, real-world problems—figuring things out for themselves first, rather than passively receiving instruction.
This Problem-First approach allows students to think like mathematicians:
✅ Inquiry-driven learning – Students approach problems in ways that make sense to them, discovering algebraic principles through exploration and discussion.
✅ Deep understanding – Instead of memorizing steps, students construct knowledge through sense-making and guided discovery.
✅ Engaging, real-world math – Every problem is relevant, eliminating the dreaded "When will I ever use this?" question.
I step in as a teacher when needed—not to lecture, but to guide discussions, provide strategic support, and help students refine their thinking. Along the way, students learn not just how to solve problems, but also how to present solutions, defend their reasoning, and engage in meaningful mathematical conversations. This class is for curious students who love a challenge and enjoy figuring things out for themselves. If your child prefers step-by-step instruction followed by repetitive practice, this is not the right fit.
💡 Designed as a weekly enrichment course, this small-group cohort (max 8 students) strengthens any student’s mathematical reasoning, fostering their ability to think more deeply, problem-solve more effectively, and communicate their ideas with confidence. Senior Cohorts: Ages 12-16 Junior Cohorts: Ages 9-12
If you’re looking for a math class that is both fun and rigorous, we’d love to have your child join us! Let’s make math an adventure in discovery. ➡️ Reach out to see if this class is the right fit for your child!
